President Donald Trump has turned on the three Supreme Court justices he put on the bench, publicly attacking them after they declined to break with a ruling that went against him.

Trump went after all three of his appointees on Tuesday after none of them publicly disagreed with a ruling that blocked his planned mail-voting changes ahead of the midterms.

Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett joined the majority. Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said they would’ve allowed the rules to take effect, prompting Trump to praise them as “legends.”

Trump wrote on Truth Social that his appointees were “merely a shell of their original selves” and accused certain justices of being afraid of “crazed and depraved Democrats.” He also blamed the court for rulings against his efforts to restrict birthright citizenship and impose sweeping tariffs.

“The Supreme Court has really let our Country down!” Trump wrote. He claimed its decisions were costing the US trillions of dollars and would rank among the most destructive in the court’s history.

The court has also delivered major victories for Trump. A 2024 ruling gave presidents broad criminal immunity for official acts, and the justices recently allowed construction on his White House ballroom project to continue while preservationists challenged it.

Attorney General Todd Blanche said the administration would comply with the latest order but could pursue further mail-voting changes before the 2028 presidential election. He described Trump as “very frustrated” and said the administration’s election efforts would continue beyond the November 2026 midterms.
