MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may discuss cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations during their upcoming contacts on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"During the upcoming meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio, the two sides will also discuss issues of cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations. As permanent members of its Security Council, Russia and the United States have enormous potential for developing cooperation. Unfortunately, this potential remains largely untapped," the Russian Foreign Ministry told Izvestia.

The ministry added that after Donald Trump returned to the White House, "Washington’s policy at the United Nations has become more pragmatic." "Against this backdrop, our main disagreements are arising not with the Americans, but with the Europeans, who continue to take radical and ideologized positions in line with the general political policy of Brussels," the ministry said.

"The issue of establishing cooperation between Moscow and Washington on generic matters, country dossiers and certain aspects of the functioning of the United Nations has already been discussed for some time through the channels of our permanent missions," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Department of International Organizations Director Kirill Logvinov told TASS that a meeting between Lavrov and Rubio is expected to take place in New York on September 23.
