WASHINGTON, September 26. /TASS/. Iran believes that the resumption of normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz should be carried out in accordance with the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington, President Masoud Pezeshkian said in an interview with CBS.

"We had previously reached an agreement based on the memorandum of understanding that was signed in Pakistan. I signed it, and the president of the United States signed it, and we were proceeding based on that agreement," Pezeshkian said when asked about "the conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."

As the president of Iran added, "the requests were included in that memorandum" and "broken down into stages. If the United States agrees to proceed in that way, everything will return to the way it was before. We are still committed to this memorandum of understanding and willing to implement it."

The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large·scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the agreements on the Strait of Hormuz. Before the conflict began, about a quarter of the world’s oil trade and about 20% of liquefied natural gas were transported through it.
