Cognition, one of the most high profile AI companies, has acquired its brand matching Cognition.com domain name. According to a post on LinkedIn this morning, the deal was brokered by Lumis:

Whois records at DomainTools shows the domain name may have changed hands in late May. It had been registered under Whois privacy at GoDaddy and it transferred to MarkMonitor, where it is now publicly registered to Cognition AI, Inc.

I don’t believe Cognition officially announced the acquisition of Cognition.com, but it has been linking to Cognition.com in recent social media posts. Prior to the acquisition of Cognition.com, Cognition had been using Cognition.ai for its website. Cognition.ai now forwards to Cognition.com.

Cognition.com had been owned by Joshua Schoen, a successful domain investor with a fantastic domain name portfolio. Responding to a post on X last year, Joshua shared that he owned Cognition.com, in addition to some other valuable domain name assets. Some of those domain names – like Sign.com, Achieve.com, and Posh.com – appear to have been sold already. Others forward to his LinkedIn profile.

I reached out to Hobi Michaelc from Lumis and Joshua Schoen to see if the sale price could be made public. Unfortunately, the price is subject to a non-disclosure agreement and isn’t going to be revealed.

Cognition was smart to secure its brand matching .com domain name. I am moderately surprised it opted to forward the .ai to the .com. That said, Cognition also seems to have dropped AI from its branding, as it’s now simply known as Cognition and not Cognition AI other than for corporate purposes. With that in mind, the move makes sense.

With this domain name upgrade, Cognition has been added to the list of companies that upgraded its domain name, maintained on Embrace.com.
