Bridgeport police say Semaj Johnson was arrested after fleeing from police and being found with a pistol with an extended magazine.

BRIDGEPORT — A man was arrested on Thursday after fleeing police and being found in possession of a handgun with an extended magazine, police say.

In a release, Bridgeport spokesperson Shawnna White said 19-year-old Semaj Johnson was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a large-capacity magazine and carrying a pistol without a permit.

White said the arrest happened after Johnson fled officers in the area of Central Avenue and DeKalb Avenue, adding he was observed discarding a firearm. She said the handgun was identified through NCIC as a stolen Glock pistol.

The pistol was equipped with a 30-round, large-capacity magazine containing 22 rounds, White said, noting one additional round was chambered. She said the firearm was also equipped with a laser aiming device.

White said Johnson is currently on supervised probation and, as a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms. She said the firearm will be submitted for forensic testing and entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network to determine whether it is linked to any other crimes.

Johnson was held on a $250,000 bond, she said.
