Quick little update! I added some more stripes (LOVE stripes for fall), bumped the NSale pieces that are still in stock to the top of this post (so they’re easier to find!), and also added a few really good pieces that didn’t end up working for me personally, but I think could be perfect for some of you.

Comfy, classic-leaning, and easy-to-wear fall wardrobe staples are once again the big Nordstrom Anniversary Sale winners for me this year.

If you’ve been with TME for a while, you know I’m definitely your gal for stretchy jeans, uber-soft sweaters, and chic but comfy jackets and coats.

I’ve been doing NSale try-ons and reviews for eight years now (wild!?!), and for me, this sale is all about finding those versatile fall pieces that make getting dressed easier. The closet favorites that are soft enough, comfortable enough, and cute enough that I truly want to wear them over and over again.

I get MOST excited about finding the sweaters I reach for on repeat (looking at you, Nordstrom Cashmere), the wide-leg jeans that are comfy enough for everyday, and the coats and jackets that make anything I’m wearing feel instantly more put together (several of them this year!)

It feels substantial and actually warm… an easy everyday sweater for fall and winter. I also love the pink and burgundy color combo.

I’ve owned multiple sweater-coats from Vince, and they’re incredible. Vince makes coatigans like no one else…luxurious, with a chic, but understated design, elegant and sophisticated styling, and they’re soft and comfortable enough that you want to wear them all.the.time. This jacket is beautiful and great quality, but I’ve determined that I don’t think I’m a scarf coat person. The scarf was just too much fabric for me on this one, but if you like a good scarf sweater coat, this is a stunner in person.

Frank & Eileen is pricey, so when it goes on sale, it’s a big deal. This 100% cotton sweater has been a favorite of mine for years, and it is NOT your typical cotton sweater. The Italian cotton is seriously the softest I’ve ever worn, and the details are so good…I especially love the exposed seam down the sleeve and the relaxed shape. I’ve owned mine for years, and it still looks and feels great.

FIT NOTES: I often wear a size 4 in Reiss coats, but was happier with the size 6 in this one (especially for layering). My plan is to take it to Nordstrom for their free-to-Nordy-Club-members tailoring since it’s a little long on my 5’2 frame.

This year, I was SET on bringing home a fabulous brown check or herringbone overcoat. I tried several on in store, and although the Ralph Lauren coat fit my 5’2 frame better (and was less expensive), the Reiss came home with me. It just felt more like the “real deal”…the bouclé, loopy texture and mix of colors felt really special. It’s a “lot” of coat (heavier and more substantial than my usual lightweight comfy cozy coatigans), but I love the classic style.

Here’s a look, though at the Ralph Lauren. As I said…it’s less expensive, comes in tons of colorways/fabrics, and does fit better for my 5’2 frame.

Soft, stretchy, and comfortable, this is a nice budget-friendly dress to have in your closet for those black dress occasions. I like the classic feel, but with the subtle asymmetrical neckline that gives it a little something extra. I’m typically a small, but I’m wearing an XS here. It works thanks to the stretchy fabric, though I’d probably go with my usual small for a little more room and drape. Note…the pumps above are Vionics…yay comfort shoes!

The huge surprise hit of my try-on? This denim jacket! I’m not typically a regular denim jacket gal, but this one completely won me over. The shape and drape feel more like my go-to-coatigans than a standard denim jacket, so I was immediately “in.” It’s soft, not too heavy, has some stretch, and is easy to move around in (I despise feeling trapped in a jacket). You can wear it open and swingy, buttoned up, or cinched at the waist with the toggled drawcord.

Sizing keeps coming in and out of stock on this one, so worth filtering by your size. This 100% cashmere hoodie is my repeat purchase every.single.year when the new colors come out (it’s that good). I’ve tried so many different cashmere hoodies, but I keep coming back to this one. Wildly soft, perfectly slouchy, and not at all fussy. Great on its own, but also cute layered under jackets and sweater-coats.

Yes… my favorite style is the cashmere hoodie, but I wear the heck out of the crewneck and v-neck sweaters, too. They’re super soft, and the key (Shana taught me this) is to size up.

Remember how I said I’m not really a denim jacket gal? Well, apparently now I am because I brought home not just one, but two denim jackets from my try-on. This sophisticated dark denim jacket from Favorite Daughter is not quite as soft as the Avec Les Filles, but the denim has a surprising amount of movement and drape to it. Still plenty comfy for me and easy to move around in. I love the shape.

FYI: I did NOT like the matching jeans. They felt blah, and the fit wasn’t great.
