The body of a missing man from Dallas was found shot four times and burned in an Oklahoma field and is now the subject of an ongoing homicide investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office in Love County, Oklahoma, deputies were called to a grass fire in a field on July 30 and arrived to find the partially charred remains of a man at the scene. The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday that the local medical examiner was able to positively identify the man by some of his tattoos and that he had been reported missing on July 29 in Dallas.
The sheriff’s office also said that the man had been shot four times in the chest and that the shooting did not take place at the same location where his body was found partially burned.
Though the man’s family has been notified of his death, authorities in Oklahoma have not yet released his name.
No further information on the case has been released, and investigators in Oklahoma have not named any suspects or announced any arrests. Investigators with the sheriff’s department said they were working with Dallas Police homicide detectives on the case.
Love County is located in Southern Oklahoma along the Red River and is just across the state line from Gainesville, about 30 miles north of Denton. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Dallas Police Department or the Love County Sheriff’s Office at 580-276-5898.
