Here are some important dates and timelines to know about the 2026 provincial election, including voting deadlines and campaign milestones.

We’re headed to the polls.

Premier David Eby confirmed Tuesday that the provincial government would be dissolved and that British Columbians would be heading to the polls for a snap election.

Because of the shortened lead-up time, it’s more important than ever to ensure you know what to expect and when.

Here are some important dates and timelines to know about this 2026 B.C. election, including voting deadlines and campaign milestones:

The 44th provincial general election will take place on Oct. 24.

This is two years earlier than the previously scheduled provincial election that was set to happen in October 2028.

Writ day is when an election is officially called and when the campaign period begins. For the 2026 snap election, writs were issued Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Those who wish to run in the election have until Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. to hand in their nomination documents.

Voters can register in advance or register when they go to vote. In order to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years or older on Oct. 24 and a resident of B.C. since April 23, 2026.

If you register or update your voter information by Oct. 1, you will receive a Where to Vote card in the mail. Beyond that, you can check online to find your polling station and register on voting day if needed.

All voters will need to prove their identity and residential address before voting. You can do this by bringing one piece of government-issued ID or two pieces of ID or documents that show your name (with at least one showing your address). For a list of acceptable ID, visit Elections B.C. online.

Advance voting takes place from Friday, Oct. 16, to Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Advance voting locations are being confirmed as of Sept. 22 and will be posted online shortly.

Requesting mail-in voting packages: Online and phone requests for mail-in voting packages can be made as of Sept. 22. The deadline to request a mail-in voting package is Oct. 18. You can request a mail-in voting package online at elections.bc.ca/votebymail or by phone by calling Elections B.C. at 1-800-661-8683.

Returning mail-in voting packages: Elections B.C. must receive your completed vote-by-mail package by 8 p.m. on Oct. 24. Completed packages can be returned by mail or dropped off at any district electoral office or voting place.

Those wanting to vote in-person on election day can do so on Saturday, Oct. 24, at their assigned voting station.

Voting stations on election day will open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Voting for the 2026 B.C. election ends at 8 p.m. on Oct. 24.

Preliminary results will be available as soon as possible after polls close at 8 p.m. on Oct. 24.

Official results will be announced following the final count, which is scheduled for Nov. 10.
