The Sports Complex Parking Venture announced changes to parking guidelines for Eagles home games starting Oct. 4, which will impact tailgating outside the Linc.
The new guidelines include employees designating parking spaces instead of the current system, which allows people to select and save their spots, according to a memo sent out by the SCPV.
The SCPV said that the change is “designed to help ease traffic flow, keep lanes clear, and preserve parking availability for all guests,” according to the memo.
The guidelines will also require people to remain within their assigned spots.
Oversized vehicles will continue to get their traditional four parking spots and will have the option of buying an additional two spots for $100.
The standard four spots go for $200 unless you have a prepaid pass.
The designated oversized parking lot will be in lots D and N, but oversized vehicles pass holders in lots E and H will be assigned in that area.
“All vehicles, equipment, and activities must remain within the assigned or purchased space,” the memo sent to season ticket holders read in part.
The guidelines will also make separate sections for oversized vehicles and regular-sized cars, with regular cars not allowed in the oversized area, according to the memo. Drop offs will also not be allowed.
Sean Holden, who runs the Hungry Dawgs tailgate on game days at the Linc, said that some of his tailgates have used as many as 20 spots before a game. But now these big tailgate operations are going to have a limit on their size.
“There’s a lot of unknown here. I think we all feel that cautiousness of what this is going to look like,” he said. “It’s a place where strangers become a community. We have the opportunity to do really great things and bring people together. We’re all united under the Eagles and there’s nothing that comes in between that.”
Holden admitted the changes will improve things from a traffic perspective, but he thinks the tailgating outweighs the traffic.
“From a trafficking standpoint, I do understand. But when it comes down to affecting the tradition, the comradery you’re taking away, the one thing that Eagles fans truly pride themselves,” he said. “The party sometimes supersedes the game, and I don’t want to see the end of it and I don’t think any of us.”
Neither the parking venture nor the Philadelphia Eagles immediately replied when contacted for comment by NBC10.
