Detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach that killed a pedestrian on Friday evening, officials said.
Officers responded to the collision at Baltic Avenue and Burnett Street around 7:20 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The preliminary investigation reveals that a woman was walking north on Baltic in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a white pickup truck that was going south and trying to make a left turn onto Burnett. Police say the driver took off, continuing east on Burnett. No other details about the truck were immediately available.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died, the department said. Her identity has not yet been released.
Authorities say speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not believed to be factors in the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Friday’s incident is the 39th fatal collision in Long Beach this year and the eighth traffic-related fatality this month, city records compiled by NBC Los Angeles indicate.
