An incoming transfer on the University of Virginia football team is facing three misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. 

Solomon Beebe is facing charges from alleged incidents earlier this month. Court records show one alleged incident on August 10 and two others on August 12 have led to three Class 1 misdemeanor charges.

A housekeeper at his apartment complex reported seeing him twice punch his pit bull, according to The Daily Progress, after the animal protection unit were already looking into an early report over conduct involving the dog.

The housekeeper at Beebe's apartment complex north of Charlottesville was interviewed by an animal protection official during the investigation, and described two separate instances of alleged violence on August 12.

'She observed Mr. Beebe hold his dog against the wall and punch his dog with a closed fist multiple times,' animal control officer Justin Gibson said, 'and the dog was yelping in pain with each strike.'

Beebe was released on an unsecured bond after being taken into custody on Monday. 

UVA told the Daily Mail: 'The University does not comment on matters involving ongoing criminal proceedings or student records.'

Albemarle County animal control seized Beebe's dog and placed it into protective custody on August 13. 

'This canine was seized on Thursday, August 13 in (the) county of Albemarle by its animal control officers and is currently held in protective custody at the SPCA in Albemarle County,' Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Pollock wrote in a petition seeking custody of the dog.

Beebe joined the Cavaliers football team this offseason, transferring from UAB (The University of Alabama at Birmingham). He entered the transfer portal after playing two seasons at UAB as a running back and return specialist.

After finishing last season with 338 rushing yards, 284 receiving yards and six touchdowns, he entered the transfer portal in December then arriving in Virginia in January. He has been named to the Paul Hornung Award watchlist ahead of the new season, recognizing versatile, high-level performers.

The Montgomery, Alabama native was seen practicing with his new team earlier this week, with coach Tony Elliott speaking about his new addition after Monday's practice ahead of the season-opener on August 29 against NC State.

'He showed immediately that he can play running back and be a really good one,' Elliott told reporters. 'So he's in the rotation there, which requires a lot to play for us. And then in the return game, he's already shown what he can do there.'

Beebe was a walk-on at UAB having left high school without any D-1 offers, and he played one season with his brother, Lee Beebe Jr., before he transferred to Indiana. Their father, Lee Beebe Sr., played college football as a running back and wide receiver at Michigan State and Alabama State, while both his parents were competitive bodybuilders.
