Damien Mullins, 46, of Bridgeport, was charged with tampering with evidence in a shooting on Laurel Avenue that left two injured, police said. 

BRIDGEPORT — A 14-year-old Bridgeport boy and his 46-year-old father have been arrested in connection with a shooting in the city’s West Side that left two youths injured, police said. 

The double shooting took place around 4 p.m. Thursday in the area of Laurel Avenue and Grove Street, according to Bridgeport police Det. Jeffrey A. Holtz.

Holtz said officers responded to the scene after receiving a notification from the gunshot detection system ShotSpotter and arrived to find two injured Stratford residents. 

He said the male victims, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for lower extremity injuries that were not considered life threatening. 

“Detectives believe the shootings were not random,” Holtz said. 

Holtz said the two suspects were arrested hours later at a motel in the city's North End. He said the son and the father are both from Bridgeport.

He said the 14-year-old was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm. 

Holtz identified the father as Damien Mullins and said he was charged with tampering with evidence. He said Mullins was held on a $25,000 bond. 

Holtz said the shooting remains under investigation and that there may be additional arrests made in the case.
