BRIDGEPORT — City police are investigating after two people were shot in the West Side on Thursday, according to a city official.

Shawnna White, a Bridgeport police spokesperson, said officers responded to the 350 block of Laurel Avenue, near Grover Street, around 4 p.m. after getting a notification from ShotSpotter, the city's gunfire detection system. She said the dispatch center got multiple 911 calls at the same time about the shooting.

Early reports indicated that all of the victims were juveniles, White said, that both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. In a later email, she clarified saying that one victim was an adult and the other was a juvenile, both were taken to the hospital and the extent of their injuries was unknown.

White said the Patrol Division and the Detective Bureau are attempting to locate the shooter, who initially who fled on foot. She said a crime scene had been established and asked that people avoid the area.
